The ink is barely dry on the U.S. and Cuba agreement, but while the politicians are still negotiating the finer details, the Caribbean people have already opened their borders and their homes. At the recent launch of Airbnb's Cuban arm, there were already 1000 listings, an incredible feat considering most residents are not allowed to have private Internet access. Scroll down to see a few of our favorites.
Located in the heart of Havana, the Hostel Conco has a prime location and panoramic terrace with views for days. While it features modern conveniences, including a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, and minibar, you will probably spend most of your time sunbaking on the brightly colored rooftop from sunrise to sunset, taking in the views of the tropical Havana horizon.
This stunning architectural home was designed by prestigious Cuban architect Emilio Castro in the mid-’60s and was recently restored to its former glory to conserve the brutalist style. The three-bedroom home has everything you need for a weekly or monthly visit, and is fully equipped to host private parties, receptions, and dinners, with a capacity for 15-25 people. The gorgeous, minimal garden complete with cactus and lattice wall is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and flanked by fire trees, which is how the house got its name, Flamboyanes House.
When you go on a Caribbean holiday, ocean views are probably at the top of your list. If it’s a tropical paradise you want, Candy House will give it to you. This beautiful oceanfront home is situated on the coastline of the legendary Cojimar in East Havana, called Havana Hemingway. Read your favorite book on delightful daybeds as you inhale the salty sea air and enjoy the good life. Take a trip to the famous Hemingway Monument, just five minutes by foot, and the Habana Vieja town and city center are just 10 minutes by car.
