Sunday night on Nate Berkus's home renovation series American Dream Builders, the team led by Chicago-based designer Lukas Machnik brought its A-game. The designers transformed dim, depressing empty room with exposed beams and dreary paint into a bright, sophisticated modern kitchen with traditional touches. After installing sleek modern cabinetry and a streamlined dining table, they created depth and warmth with cognac leather dining chairs and an oversize gilded mirror. A small tree, a silver tray, and groupings of pillar candles added a little femininity, which balanced the more modern shapes and lines beautifully.
