Move Over, Rosé—the Spritz Is the Cocktail of Summer 2017
While our Instagram feeds are typically inundated with glasses of rosé and prosecco come summer, it appears that 2017 is the summer of the spritz. Pioneered by companies like Aperol, which has managed to turn its already photogenic Aperol spritz into a fashion accessory, these refreshing aperitifs have been popular in countries like Germany and Italy for decades, reports Digiday.
So why are these citrusy cocktails making waves stateside now? According to Dave Karraker, VP of engagement and advocacy at Campari America, the maker of Aperol, it's a combination of smart marketing and an Instagram-friendly aesthetic. "It's a beautiful color, and when you're in the sun, it makes for a nice picture," he told the media company. "A nice Chablis isn't going to do that for you." Here's exactly how to make the trending cocktail of the summer:
Put the ice into a glass, and then add the prosecco, Aperol, and a splash of soda. Garnish with an orange slice and enjoy!
