This Stylish Trend Takes Poufs to the Next Level

Jonathan Steinitz

I’ve got a new obsession that hits my soft spot for casual, approachable home styling. Chic bean bags take the bohemian pouf and floor pillow trend to the next level to add a comfortable seat to any room without the formality of a chair. It’s my new favorite way to keep a home space feeling down to earth (figuratively and literally).

For the fashion-minded, think of bean bags as the harem pant of the home: low-slung, baggy, comfortable, and, like all things ’90s, making a comeback. And everyone enjoys a well-placed throwback moment, right? Take a cue from your Instagram feed: #TBT has almost 350 million posts and counting. Why should your home space be any different? Part of making your home comfortable means surrounding yourself with furniture and décor that feels familiar and suits your personal style, both past and present. Unlike the bean bags you remember from yesteryear, today’s versions come in chic textures that range from linen to leather to faux fur, easily putting them in the running for the best seats in the house.

Check out nine rooms below where bean bags create a chic, comfortable look.

In this bachelor pad living room, seating has been maximized for casual hangouts. The striped bean bag gives this space a functional, comfortable statement piece for entertaining. Your friends might want to sit or they might want to recline a little; either way, they’re covered.

For a more polished approach to the bean bag trend, get low with high-design vintage pieces. These leather seats are sophisticated enough for afternoon tea, chic enough for evening champagne cocktails, and, most importantly, squishy enough for sleepy morning mimosas.

Modern Bean Bag The Chameleon Bean Bag Chair ($500)

In this minimal, masculine space, bean bag accent chairs help keep everything low to the ground. The triangular shape of the bean bag modernizes its look and helps soften the sleek architectural lines of the windows, art, and lighting.
