This Region's Delicious Diet May Be the Secret to a Long, Healthy Life
Pass the olive oil, will you?
The Mediterranean diet has long been touted as a secret to a healthy yet still taste bud–satiated life, and new studies confirm the hunch, casting clearer light on the specific benefits of indulging in an olive oil-centric menu.
According to ScienceDaily, researchers at a Brussels conference reported that a Mediterranean-style diet “significantly decreased the levels of the protein known as C-reactive protein, one of the main inflammatory marker linked with the aging process.” Additionally, it was found that “the rate of bone loss in people with osteoporosis was reduced.”
The study, which is the first of its kind looking at the impact of a Mediterranean-style diet on the over-65 population, was conducted in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and the UK and included more than 1100 participants. Other conditions such as cardiovascular health and digestive health have yet to be analyzed but are an area of interest, according to the researchers.
