Julia Millay Walsh

From meals to mortgages, the nation's greatest cities always come at a price, and its becoming more and more difficult to stomach skyrocketing rents nearly everywhere these days. That said, it pays to dream, so let's take a look at the most stunning city homes from San Francisco to New York and a few fabulous towns in between. Here to give us the scoop on the greatest city pads on the market in the country is Alex Brunkhorst, LA-based real estate agent and founder of Bungalux.

1. Exquisite Mediterranean Location: Los Angeles, CA Price: $6.595 million Listing Type: Single Family Beds/Baths: 6/5.2 Year Built: 2011 Bragging Rights: Incredible reclaimed materials imported from Europe. Amazing Amenity: A few steps away from one of the best parks in LA. Professional Opinion: So many people want new construction, but this one has the "newness" without feeling like a carbon copy of the neighbor's. And Palisades is such a great little enclave of Los Angeles.
2. Lloyd Wright Studio and Residence Location: Los Angeles, CA Price: $2.25 million Listing Type: Duplex Beds/Baths: 2/2.0 Year Built: 1927 Bragging Rights: The architect. Amazing Amenity: Walking distance to Sunset Strip. Professional Opinion: This is one of those structures that commands your attention on a drive-by. Certainly one of the chicest ways to do Los Angeles. Calling all screenwriters, this one has your name written all over it!
3. Prewar Manor Style Residence Location: Washington, DC Price: $7.9 million Listing Type: Single Family Beds/Baths: 5/5.1 Year Built: 1934 Bragging Rights: The kitchen. Really -- one of the prettiest we've ever seen. Amazing Amenity: The location right in the heart of one of the country's prettiest cities. Professional Opinion: This is one of my favorite renovations I've seen in a long time. With a kitchen like that, even I would learn how to cook.
4. Penthouse Perfection on the Park Location: New York, NY Price: $48 million Listing Type: Co-op Beds/Baths: 5/6.0 Year Built: 1907 Bragging Rights: Featured in Architectural Digest. Amazing Amenity: 3,000-square-foot terrace with explosive views of Central Park. Professional Opinion: I can't write an article on city living without mentioning one of the greatest cities in the world. And its real estate is still to die for.
5. Historic Gold Coast Opulence Location: Chicago, IL Price: $18.75 million Listing Type: Single Family Beds/Baths: 12/12.0 Year Built: 1891 Bragging Rights: Architectural provenance. Amazing Amenity: Incredible original stained glass. Professional Opinion: I've been known to feature a northern Chicago suburban house or two, but there's nothing quite like living right in Chicago. This Fiedler house is a beauty.
6. Four Seasons Private Residence Location: Seattle, WA Price: $3.4 million Listing Type: Condo Beds/Baths: 2/2.0 Year Built: 2008 Bragging Rights: A Four Seasons address. Amazing Amenity: Water views from everywhere. Professional Opinion: You can't go wrong with the Four Seasons in any city -- in Seattle in particular.
7. Arts & Crafts Home Location: San Francisco, CA Price: $8.995 million Listing Type: Single Family Beds/Baths: 5/5.1 Year Built: N/A Bragging Rights: Russian Hill is a great neighborhood and its real estate is very hard to come by. Amazing Amenity: Those fabulous Russian Hill views. Professional Opinion: This is a gorgeous Arts and Crafts house in one of San Francisco's hottest 'hoods.
8. Classic Georgian-Style Residence Location: San Francisco, CA Price: $10.95 million Listing Type: Single Family Beds/Baths: 7/7.0 Year Built: N/A Bragging Rights: 50 feet of frontage on one of San Francisco's most desirable streets.
