This $16 Treatment Will Make Your Dry Hands "Feel Like Baby Skin"
The wintertime requires an entirely new skincare regimen—one that includes some TLC for your hands. The sub-zero temperatures plus consistent hand-washing can often result in dry, cracked, and even bleeding hands, not to mention diagnosable conditions like eczema.
But as Joshua Zeichner, MD, the director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, points out, "there are a lot more options than your standard hand lotion on store shelves these days." He told Self that the "newest generation of hand creams contain a combination of occlusives, such as petrolatum, which act as a barrier layer to prevent moisture from leaving your skin; humectants, like hyaluronic acid, which help your skin hold onto more water; and emollients (such as oils), which can do both."
Armed with his advice, Self writer Molly Nover-Baker sought out to find the best hand treatment on the market, testing seven different options ranging from $5 to $65. She ultimately landed on Jenna Hipp's Two-Step Renewing Hand Treatment, which is just $16 on Amazon. "The oils left behind on my skin made them feel unbelievably smooth and moisturized. Like baby skin, for real. So much so that I wondered if I even needed to do the second step of applying the Hand & Nail treatment," she writes. "But being the rule-follower that I am, I did anyway, and the overall effect feels like brand-new hands."
What's more is that using this two-step system couldn't be easier. First, wet your hands, and apply a generous amount of the One Minute Fix Renewing Hand Scrub, which is a mix of sugar, shea butter, and oils. "I left it on for 60 seconds (as instructed), and then I began massaging and rubbing my hands together to work the scrub in," she explains. Rinse your hands thoroughly before applying the hand and nail treatment.
