Doctors Agree—This Is the #1 Inflammation-Fighting Food
The internet has granted us an infinite amount of health and wellness information, but sometimes you need the SparkNotes version. When it comes to reducing inflammation in the body, doctors and health professionals can agree on one thing: Turmeric is the way to go.
"Turmeric is the most potent anti-inflammatory on the earth," Sara Gottfried, MD, gynecologist, and author of The Hormone Cure, said to Mindbodygreen. "I add turmeric root to my bone broth and vegan soups, and juice it in my medicinal shakes. I add one teaspoon of organic curcumin powder to my meals."
Taz Bhatia, a board-certified physician and author of What Doctors Eat, agrees: "My favorite anti-inflammatory food is my golden milk: turmeric, honey, and a little nondairy milk to keep me warm and healthy!" she told the health and wellness site.
The ancient spice has been used in Asian cooking for centuries, namely in curries or tea. The anti-inflammatory magic lies in the active ingredient curcumin, which is an antioxidant that has been shown to ease arthritis, muscle sprains, and digestive conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.
