An Exclusive Sneak Peek at Lauren Conrad's Latest Handmade Textiles
In addition to her thriving fashion label, Lauren Conrad is the co-founder of a growing global shop, The Little Market, which sells beautiful lifestyle accents, home décor, and fashion accessories made by artisans in developing nations. Today, Conrad gives us an exclusive first look at Little Market's new collection of textiles.
We love taking trips around the world to find unique handmade items for The Little Market, our online fair trade shop. When we visit marketplaces, it’s easy to find plenty of beautiful items. But the challenge is ensuring that we buy pieces directly from artisans who are earning a fair wage for their work. When you purchase goods at a market, the artisan who made that piece earns a fraction of what the vendor sells it for. As part of our commitment to fair trade, we make sure our artisans take material cost and production time into consideration in order to calculate a fair price to sell their goods.
On our last trip to Guatemala, we fell in love with a selection of vibrant blankets. We are thrilled that we finally found artisans to partner with to present these gorgeous items to you. We decided to develop a line of pillows with the artisan group as well, perfect for mixing and matching in your home. The blankets are handwoven on a backstrap loom, using techniques that have been passed down for generations.
And this line couldn’t come at a better time! The days are getting longer and warmer as we head into summer, so it’s a great season to start adding color into the home. These textiles add a bright pop of color to the living room or bedroom, and each is handmade by a female artisan in Guatemala. Precious Hands collaborates with these talented artisans to help design, produce, market, and sell their goods. Precious Hands commits a portion of its profits to their micro-loan program, giving artisans the opportunity to receive long-lasting and sustainable assistance. Take a peek at some of our favorite blankets and pillows below.
