Inside the Chic Black Home of a Restaurateur in Cape Town

Sacha Strebe

The real beauty of this home lies in its juxtaposition. London restaurateur Werner Hugo surrounded his striking contemporary creation within the lush and wild nature of Cape Town. It took two years for the South African to return to his roots, and he made the return home in style.

The home underwent a complete renovation by interior designer Etienne Hanekom, who painted the walls with ultra-matte black, replaced the flooring with dark slate, and added a garden terrace on the roof. The four-bedroom home has three living rooms with views of the outdoors.

"I love Cape Town for its situation around the world: the splendor of the natural site and the strength that emanates from this tumultuous ocean surrounded by majestic mountains," he told Marie Claire Maison.
