16 Envy-Inducing Celebrity Art Collectors
A personal art collection, regardless of how expensive the pieces may be, is what makes a house a home. These accents are essential finishing touches—they can elevate even a room filled with big-box pieces to something one of a kind. There are some people who simply have a great eye for art. They may collect important pieces, such as Warhols and John Singer Sargents, or they know how to spot a great flea-market find. Because we love to ooh and ahh over celebrity homes, today we thought we take a look back at some of our favorite celebrity art collectors.

Unsurprisingly, art adviser Will Kopelman has an incredible art collection. In the home he shares with his actress-producer wife Drew Barrymore, his office has a full-scale reproduction of John Singer Sargent’s El Jaleo, which he had custom-made and actually doubles as a magnetic bulletin board.
In the TV room of his Paris duplex, Saint Laurent head designer Stefano Pilati hung a pair of antique family portraits, which are juxtaposed with sculptural modern lamps by Venini, black and white photography, and an abstract painting.
Fashion designer and stylist Rachel Zoe began developing her son Skylar’s taste in art early. In his nursery, she hung a print, “Monkey Train,” by American artist Jeff Koons, which she purchased at auction. “My mission in the nursery was to make it beautiful, not kitschy,” she told InStyle.
An anonymous antique portrait long loved by Rachel Bilson is displayed in the actress’s home. “It’s Rachel’s pride and joy,” her interior designer Kishani Perera says of this intriguing portrait.
The collection of framed and unframed portraits by Marvin Cherney and Walt Kuhn bring personality to the simple South Carolina kitchen of rocker John Mellencamp. When displayed together, they make a much more powerful statement.
We can only assume frequent antiquer Ginnifer Goodwin picked up this abstract midcentury work at a flea market, but regardless, we’re digging its enigmatic style and masculine color palette.
Design-savvy stars Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi own an unusual piece by Andy Warhol. Juxtaposed with farmhouse-style furnishings, it has a standout presence.
The transitional Manhattan home of actor Michael J. Fox marries a modern painting by French artist Louise Bourgeois with traditional accents like an early-20th-century Turkish Oushak carpet and a Steinway & Sons grand piano.
In the ultra-cool, modern New York apartment of rocker Diego Garcia of Elefant, a painterly photo by his best friend, Hope Atherton, hangs above the sofa; and beside it, a black-and-white abstract painting. Clearly he and wife Laura have terrific taste.
Singer-songwriter Solange Knowles is the proud owner of a photograph by Malick Sidibé, who’s known for his black-and-white images chronicling the exuberant lives and culture, often of youth, in his native Bamako, Mali in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. The photo of a pair of dancers brings a spirited sense of African culture to her modern Brooklyn dining room.
The focal point of Brooke Shield’s Manhattan living room is a heart-shaped painting by pop artist Keith Haring (a gift from the artist), which is framed by two portraits of the actress’s daughters by Will Cotton. A statement-making combination.
Alina Cho, on-the-go national correspondent for CNN and host of Fashion: Backstage Pass, has a great collection of artwork in her spacious Manhattan apartment. She owns a number of Impressionist pieces by artist Renée Dempsey (shown here), as well as bold photography by Marilyn Minter.
Young Barbara Bush is lucky to have an artist boyfriend (Miky Fabrega), who has given her a number of cool art pieces, including the peachy abstract painting shown here above her fireplace.
