Home Tour: Chiara Ferragni's Pop-Chic Los Angeles Home
Chiara Ferragni has incredible taste. If you know one thing about the face behind the wildly popular fashion blog The Blonde Salad, that’s it. But when you’re busy sitting front row at fashion weeks across the globe, shooting covers of major magazines, running a successful shoe business, and keeping up with your 3 million Instagram followers, who’s got time to tackle decorating a new home? After moving into a new home in L.A.'s Silver Lake in October, the formerly Milan-based Italian blogger and her photographer boyfriend, Andrew Arthur, hired interior design firm Consort Design (which was co-founded by our creative director Mat Sanders), to help bring a fashionable vision to their interiors. “Sometimes you really need someone skilled to put care into how you should decorate your house,” Ferragni tells us.

“Chiara lives a kinetic lifestyle so we wanted to create a space where she would feel comfortable kicking back while in Los Angeles,” Consort co-founder Brandon Quattrone tells us. Essential to that was tackling some common small-space issues: “With a long, narrow living area, the challenge was to incorporate different functions in one small space,” Quattrone says. “So we pushed the seating to the perimeter of the room, and created different zones for eating, lounging, and watching TV.”

Echoing her playful sense of fashion, “Chiara’s design style is pop chic,” Sanders says. “Chiara definitely has fun with fashion—and we wanted the interior to have that same expression,” Quattrone adds. Surprisingly, Mickey Mouse was “a big point of inspiration for us,” Sanders tells us. “She has a thing for him, so primary colors, bold use of black and white, and graphic accessories were incorporated throughout.” But this is not Disney World: “We kept things elevated with modern brass details and rich, velvety textures.” Naturally, Mickey inched his way into the design: One of Ferragni’s most sentimental possessions is a Mickey Mouse vintage telephone she bought with Andrew at the flea market. “It was such a great day,” she reflects.

Creating a home that would suit both Andrew and Chiara’s styles was also vital. “Luckily Andrew and I have almost the same taste, but we talked with Mat and Brandon and they helped us to find a middle ground,” Ferragni says. “It’s all about wood, blue, and white.” The prominent color in the space is a deep, rich blue—almost oceanic—and it plays beautifully with the touches of brass and gold that Consort selected for a number of accents. The stylistic foothold of the living room is a pair of blue ‘50s Italian armchairs with brass legs. Super sexy, with an eye-catching shape, they sum up the space.

In the master bedroom is another gorgeous piece of midcentury furniture. “The house came with this incredible midcentury modern bed frame with attached nightstands,” Quattrone tells us. “We loved its simplicity, so we kept the room airy and fresh as a little escape from the bold design in the rest of the house.”
Ferragni and Arthur’s home boasts a number of great assets, particularly when it comes to the outdoors—and unsurprisingly, Ferragni tells us, “I love this house. I fell in love with this place as soon as I got here.” With multiple top-story porches, the architecture of the house is fitting for a modern-day Rapunzel. “I love how it’s a home of many porches,” Quattrone says. “There's a front porch, a back porch, and the balcony off the master bedroom. Each one is like its own little turret and such a great way to take in the hilly Silver Lake terrain.”
Below is a prime area for entertaining: “The outdoor space was naturally equipped with all the makings of a Pinterest dream come true: an ivy covered hill, a big tree over a flat terrain, and an enchanting view of Silver Lake rooftops,” Sanders says. Consort brought the outdoor space to fruition with a set of Ballard Designs chairs spray-painted in a vibrant teal hue, a mobile West Elm pendant dangling from the trees, a fittingly cartoonish and painterly BottleCloth table cloth, and a vintage-style "Los Angeles" marquee sign found at a flea market, which Sanders describes as “the perfect statement piece for her Hollywood life.” The backyard is what Ferragni loves most, she tells us. “This makeover made it even more beautiful than it was before. I can’t wait to enjoy it.”
