Christian Siriano Dishes on One Kings Lane Sale and New Weekend Getaway
It didn't take long for Christian Siriano to quickly become a respected label in fashion; now boasting a client list of Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and more. While gowns and shifts may be his bread and butter, Siriano is no stranger to interior design. "Decorating has always sort of been a hobby of mine, I love curating the look my home and my office."
Siriano has some major curating to do as of late, after purchasing a new home in Connecticut with fiancé Brad Walsh. "It's going to be a weekend house, some place to go and get away from all of the craziness of the city." With home décor on the brain, it's no wonder the designer chose to do a flash sale on One King's Lane. The sale includes a collection of antiques inspired by his Chelsea apartment, including Brass Foo Dog Lamps, an Antique French Birdcage, and a dress form from the 19th century. He also painted original fashion sketches and paintings for the sale inspired by his runway collections. "I don't make custom furniture so this was my way of bringing something personal to the sale. You can get an original piece of art and piece of fashion, it's the best of both worlds." Also included in the sale are pillows made from various fabrics, everything from bold zebra print to chintzy floral. "The fabrics come from the mills we use for the collection. They are all one-of-a-kind single sets of pillows, so it's special and you know you're not going to be able to find that fabric anywhere else."
Siriano seems to take interest in finding things that are special. "We go to the Chelsea Flea Market on weekends and I love this little shop that is next to mine on Elizabeth Street downtown called Area ID. Their stuff is a little more midcentury than I usually like, but there is a lot I love there." He is also a constantly shopping One Kings Lane for his new Connecticut home. "I want the home to be really bright, really fun, just a place to go and feel refreshed."
Siriano seems primed and ready to launch a home collection, a common next step for successful fashion designers. His creative mind seems to never stop, "When I'm working on a collection and I'm working with a lot of color I'll come home and be like, oh my gosh, I feel like we need more color in the house. Or lately I'm loving all of the wool and cashmere in my fall collection, so I'll try to work that in at home. It definitely rubs off because I'm in it in my head." The Chelsea studio has proved a successful interior design test-ground for Siriano, and our hopes are high for the Connecticut get-away. When will that home décor collection debut though? "I don't know when the right time will be, but hopefully soon." Hopefully soon, indeed.
