Why Citrus Is Totally Underrated in Your Kitchen

Katie Sweeney

During the summer months, everyone always goes crazy for fresh in-season berries and stone fruit. Magazines encourage you to pick local blueberries, and restaurants feature peach varietal tasting menus. The bounty of summer’s produce is one of the greatest things about the season; everyone talks about it, and no one can get enough. However, nobody ever gives citrus, the fruit of winter, the same love. Citrus is the most underrated fruit in the kitchen—but it shouldn’t be! However, if you live in a warmer climate like California or Florida, you’ll know that the Meyer lemon and grapefruit trees are weighted with jewel-like fruit this time of year. To encourage you to experiment with citrus, the least appreciated fruit around, here are some delicious and innovative citrus recipes you need to make while limes, oranges, tangerines, kumquats, and mandarins are in season.
