Inside a Truly Heartfelt and Powerful Home Makeover
We love a home makeover pretty much unconditionally. As true believers in the power of our lived environments, there's something irresistible about how these transformations seem to reach far beyond a new coat of paint or a rearrangement of furniture that makes the room pop.
This heartwarming home transformation comes from Cup of Jo's very own Joanna Godard. Joanna's twin sister, Lucy, lost her beloved spouse to lung cancer at the age of 36. Visiting her sister in New York, Lucy shared that she felt like crying every time she thought of returning home to a space that once was so full of love and now felt empty. Joanna got to work brainstorming how she could make a difference and help her sister get back on her feet after suffering such a devastating loss. She reached out to an interior-designer friend Jenny Komenda of Little Green Notebook and Juniper Studio, and got to work.
The transformation is lovely: colorful, fresh, and delightful in its own right. Add to it just how important the project was, and it's all the more magical. For Lucy, the changes have made all the difference: "There’s so much love and care in everything," she shared. "Before, I’d be sitting at home watching TV and it felt so lonely. I’m excited to come home now; I’m excited to have people over. I’m not itching to get out like I was before. I feel like a fresh, cool lady in my house. So much love and care went into it."
