The Secrets to A Beautiful Entryway
Q. How can I make my entryway look chic? Just like your eyes are the window to your soul, your entry is the window to the rest of your home, so you better make it special! In order to create a stunning design moment to greet you and your guests upon first entering your home, consider the size of your space, how you will use it, and what you want it to convey about the rooms beyond.
Size It Up: The shape and size of your hallway will dictate how you create your vignette. A long, narrow, corridor-style entry would warrant a slim console with a mirror above to create height and depth in your space. If you are fortunate to have ample space in your entry, then a central feature, such as a round entry table decorated with fresh flowers, adds high-impact value and will set the tone for the feel of the rest of your home.
Take A Seat: To create an inviting experience, I love the addition of seating in an entry. If space is limited, consider flanking a console with a pair of Louis XVI-style chairs upholstered in gorgeous antiqued velvet to add an element of low-key glamour. If space allows, I particularly like to incorporate a low console table with a pair of ottomans or benches tucked beneath, which adds dimension and layers.
Stay Tough: Remember that anything you put in your entry must be able to withstand the high foot traffic. Avoid anything extremely delicate and save that for your living room. Rugs and runners in sturdy materials like sisal and wool are perfect for adding texture underfoot but won't show wear.Layer Light: Consider using multiple lighting sources, like you would in any other space. A decorative ceiling lantern with a pair of sconces or lamps is a nice touch, and will help create a glowing atmosphere when welcoming guests into your home. Do you have a question for Estee?
