These New Earphones Will Change the Way You Listen to Music
No two sets of ears are exactly the same; therefore, no two sets of earbuds should be either. So is the philosophy of new company Even, an earbuds producer whose mission is to create a "dramatically superior sound experience" through customized headphones, according to its website.
Here's how it works: Once you put in the earbuds, you simply push the "Even" button on the handheld controller. Next, you'll be asked to listen to a series of eight different musical tones in each individual ear to establish your own "EarPrint," or the unique way you hear out of each ear. Your EarPrint is then saved to the Even system—you simply press the "Even" button again to apply your own filter to whatever you're listening to. By emphasizing frequencies you normally struggle to hear, Even earphones allow you to listen to music at a lower volume, making them a health-conscious purchase as well.
According to Refinery29's Christina Bonnington, the results are astounding. "When I switch on the 'Even' button on these earbuds, immediately, I can notice a difference. Suddenly I can hear way more music in my left ear than I normally do at a given volume. For both ears, guitar strums and drum hits are richer. In songs I've listened to a hundred times, I could hear new details I'd never hear before in the background."
