Trust Us: You Need to See the Jaw-Dropping Makeover of This Stylish CEO's Home
When there’s a home as drop-dead gorgeous as Alaina Kaczmarski’s of The Everygirl, MyDomaine HQ takes notice. Kaczmarski, who co-founded the online lifestyle magazine with Danielle Moss back in 2012, rented the Chicago brownstone with her husband after finding it on Craigslist late last year, and the pair completely transformed the space over the course of roughly nine months.
“This is literally my dream home. I love walking up the front steps whenever I come home,” she told The Everygirl’s Caitlin Brown. That being said, she does admit that “there is one huge similarity between our current house and my past apartments: They’re all great vintage apartments with interesting architectural details and tons of natural light.” Below read up on how Kaczmarski upgraded and redecorated the space (and view the jaw-dropping photos).
The Living Room
“The biggest splurge in our place is probably the mirror above our fireplace mantel and the chandelier,” explains Kaczmarski. “And they’re the first two things you notice when you walk into the living room. I get more compliments on both than on anything in the house, and they’re items everyone who comes over sees.”
The Dining Room
“I choose items I plan on using for a long time to come. Not simply what will work now,” she notes of the design process. “That’s why our new larger dining table is extendable. I assume we might not have this large a dining room in the future, so while I wanted a large table for this home, I wanted to be sure the table could be used in future rooms.”
“With just about all my past homes, I’ve been willing to sacrifice updated kitchens and baths for that vintage charm,” she explains. “This house is no exception—the kitchen and bathrooms are not only outdated, but the cabinets and flooring are also cracking and they’re not in great shape. Lucky for us, I’m pretty sure that’s why anyone else who came to look at it passed. I’ll take an outdated kitchen for a woodburning fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows any day.”
“I have to say I am most proud of the office transformation,” she declares. “That tiny room upstairs was in such bad shape. Cobwebs were visible from down the hallway, the light cream carpet had been stained a dirty dark gray. Now—with a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, custom roman shade, and sleek design, it’s a beautiful, inspiring spot to work.”
