When Aimee Song of fashion blog Song of Style opened her home to Elle, we were eager to find out how the ever-polished blogger translated her effortless style at home. Known for her colorful sense of fashion and statement accessories, it's no surprise Song uses the same principles for interior design. "Blue is my favorite color and gold is my favorite metal, so it was natural for me to pick a blue sofa and use gold accents throughout the home," Song says on her blog. Just like styling an outfit, she was careful not to overdo it. "The dining room and living room are connected, but I didn’t want to overpower the house with blue… so I kept the dining room in black, white, and gold, yet chose pieces that make a big impact," she says. To get the look, consider the colors that reoccur in your wardrobe. Start with one or two high-impact pieces in a bold hue, then balance it with monochrome or neutral décor that complements the statement shade.
For Sydney-based fashion blogger Brooke Testoni, renovating a home is like investing in a new season wardrobe: always well-considered and, most importantly, fun! The 27-year-old admits styling a traditional home with modern accents is one of her passions. "I love the old style and feel of the terrace, but we still like everything to be fresh and mixing old with the new," she says. Testoni's personal style is minimal, monochrome and effortless, three qualities that are also evident in her 1904 terrace. To combine the traditional home (which features a cast-iron balcony and high ceilings) with her modern sense of style, Testoni chose furniture with clean, architectural lines. In her living room, a classic white-washed wooden table is paired with molded plastic Eames chairs in a black and white color palette. Master old-meets-new décor by choosing accents with a minimalist silhouette.
Style blogger Nicolette Mason enlisted the help of interior designer Emily Henderson to give her L.A. abode a fresh look. The fabulous duo focused on finding décor that reflected Mason's personality and lifestyle. "We wanted to create a space that was warm, inviting, reflected our personalities, and that also allowed us to evolve as we welcome life changes," Mason writes on her blog. "We wanted a space that was sophisticated and pulled together but still had the whimsy and playful energy that we seek in our everyday lives." The result? Henderson chose an uplifting color palette of soft pink and sage tones, and invested in furniture that would tie in with the couple's social lifestyle. Entertainment areas became a focus, with a gold bar cart and dinner setting taking center stage. Adopt Mason's style in your own home by investing in quality décor that complements your lifestyle. If you regularly host dinner parties, splurge on a gorgeous piece like a chic bar cart.
When fashion blogger Elin Kling listed her Stockholm apartment for sale, the fashion and interior design world took note. Her chic home is everything you'd imagine it to be: a light-drenched, laid-back example of Scandinavian style. Located in Östermalm, Sweden, Kling's quiet, cool-girl approach to fashion exudes at home. Our biggest takeaway? Create depth and a touch of luxury by choosing accents in slightly different shades of the same color. Kling adds interest to an almost all-white space by contrasting traditional moldings and soft furnishings in various shades of warm white. Get the luxe look by layering accent pillows, linens, and throws in different shades of white.
If you know one thing about Chiara Ferragni, mastermind behind one of the world's most popular fashion blogs, The Blonde Salad, it's that she has a fabulous quirky edge. When the Italian street style star took up residence in Silver Lake, L.A., she invited MyDomaine into her home for a tour. Just like her signature style, the new abode is brimming with playful pieces and bursts of color. Ferragni enlisted the help of Consort Design (which was co-founded by our creative director, Mat Sanders), to translate her fashion-forward taste to her new home. "Chiara’s design style is pop chic," Sanders tells MyDomaine. In fact, the inspiration behind the playful décor is Mickey Mouse. “She has a thing for him, so primary colors, bold use of black and white, and graphic accessories were incorporated throughout," he says. Take a cue from Ferragni's interior design style and add a dash of quirk to your space with a typographic artwork or decorative piece.
Badlands blogger Talisa Sutton is something of an interiors aficionado. Describing her style as "scandi-minimal with a hint of Californian-eclectic," Sutton says bright lighting was key to bringing her bedroom and home to life. "Natural light is really important for me, so we searched for quite a while to find a place where the bedroom was filled with soft, beautiful light during the day," she tells MyDomaine. "To complement this, we opted for drop-down pendants that enhance the lighting without overpowering it." Sutton says choosing a theme for light fittings is a great way to create consistency. "All of our lights were either white or black with brass accents, which helps tell a story," she says.
When Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely invited MyDomaine into her Mid-City Los Angeles bungalow, we learned a thing or two about how to style our spaces like a fashion blogger. Describing her interior style as stark bohemian or "Texture City," Neely's home contains prized possessions from overseas travel paired with soft textured pieces. "I like to pick things up as I come across them instead of going out of my way to find the perfect item," she says, referring to her collection of treasured items like a Moroccan shag pouf and fur throw. Copy her bohemian style by layering textured accents, like a smooth brass lamp with a soft fur ottoman.
Small-space style can be a serious challenge, but We Wore What blogger Danielle Bernstein proves personality accents are key. The style influencer teamed up with Z Gallerie to make over her West Village apartment, which consisted of a raised loft bedroom and open-plan living area. "You can see a direct correlation between my personal style and home interior," says Bernstein. "I like to keep it pretty minimal and layer with special pieces." One such special piece was an '80s neon sign Bernstein already owned. To give her home a fashion-forward voice, she opted to keep the typographic sign as a focal point and styled the other decor around it.
Attention to detail is key for The Chriselle Factor's Chriselle Lim. The successful blogger enlisted the help of interior designer Lucinda Pacé from Laurel & Wolf to reimagine the home she shares with her husband, Allen, and their new baby, Chloe. One of the key lessons we learned from her chic new space is that shelves and countertop styling is a great way to inject personality and make a fresh space seem lived-in. "I ended up just falling in love with how simple and effortless white and gold pieces look," says Lim. Her shelves are styled with cherished fashion books, mementos, and statues, such as a gold geometric horse head, which ties back seamlessly with white and gold ceramic urns. Create the look at home by using a stylish tray to arrange personal items. Combine a few chosen pieces such as a vase or beautiful coffee table book on a tray for a curated personal touch.
With a background in interior design and a natural sense of style, it's no wonder Australian influencer Amanda Shadforth of Oracle Fox has a stunning home that takes cues from her personal style. Known for her minimalist taste and love of metallic accessories, Shadforth's Queensland pad exudes cool-girl chic. Textured lamb throws are paired with architectural metal furniture, all in a neutral palette. Shadforth's best style tip: Treat décor like a work of art. Her love of form over function shows at home with a purely aesthetic brass display table topped with taper candles. Shadforth often finds an item and changes its purpose to appreciate its form. A wooden guitar sits on display as a piece of art and a geometric brass terrarium is placed on the kitchen countertop as a sculptural piece. Follow her lead and learn that décor doesn't have to serve a functional purpose. Sometimes our favorite accents are simply beautiful.
