2 Female Apple Executives You Need to Know
Our office is filled with tech-obsessed women (and men), so of course we’re always super-excited to discover what’s new at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, but this year was different. While WDC has been running since 1976, this was the first time that not one but two female Apple executives took to the keynote stage. Hard to believe it took this long, especially when you consider the strong female presence in the tech industry today, and many of those women were instrumental in building the products at Apple. Let’s not forget the facts, either. We already know that women are more likely to own an iPhone than men, buy more tech, and engage with more digital media activities. It makes sense then that women are hired to design technology specific to their tech-savvy sisters. So just who are these two remarkable women at Apple? What you need to know:
She Has Major Industry Cred
Before Apple, Prescott was Adobe's vice president of product management and marketing, cross-media publishing for 10 years. During her time, Prescott was an engineering manager, she also supervised a range of marketing functions, and in her vice president role, she oversaw Adobe's cross-media products, including page layout and workflow, asset management, and high-end print. Prescott joined Apple in 2003.
She’s an Electrical Engineer
Before she bit into the big Apple, Prescott started out as a humble student with big dreams, like the rest of us. The major difference is she earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and then followed that up with a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University. Now that’s impressive.
She’s a Product Pro
No wonder Apple headhunted her for its creative group. Prescott’s career history is solely based around product development and research. Prior to Adobe, she was a product manager for Coherent Thought Inc. and a research associate for Schlumberger Palo Alto Research.

Online Shopping Is Her Passion
Before heading up Apple Pay, Bailey was the vice president of Apple’s online store, driving the online sales of Apple's hardware and software products worldwide. She is now considered a powerful executive at Apple.
She’s an E-Commerce Veteran
From 1995 to 1999, she was the senior vice president of strategic development and marketing officer at Netscape Communications Corporation and launched and ran Netscape's online portal business. She was the brains behind major online retail deals, such as the agreement with Amazon.com that made it the exclusive bookseller on Netscape Netcenter's commerce section, Netscape Marketplace. She joined Apple in 2003, where she rose to run the company's online Apple Store, taking her present role with Apple Pay last year.
She’s an Entrepreneur
Bailey was previously partner and co-founder of Spark & Kindling, a strategic marketing services firm, where she specialized in new market opportunity evaluation, market segmentation, and business plan development. From this skill set, she held several management positions throughout her career, such as running marketing and product marketing with SkyTel, GO Corporation, and Teknowledge. She also served as a director of Backflip Inc. and of MailFrontier Inc. Wow, with such an accomplished career already, we’d love to know what’s still left on Bailey’s to-do list!
