3 Twists on Classic Parisian Style to Snag from LA's Chicest Bakery
Interior designer Jessica Marx of J. Marx Atelier describes her personal aesthetic as vintage glam meets boho-chic. "I try to stay pretty neutral and timeless with the larger pieces, adding pops of color and edge with art and accessories," she says. This particular sensibility is evident in her design for boutique pâtisserie Bo Nuage, a jewel box of a space in Los Angeles. "The second I started working on this French pastry shop, I was immediately inspired by classic French design: white walls, ornate decorative moldings, and marble floors," the designer shares. "It was really important to me to have that nod to traditional design, but just turn it up a little to create a modern, unexpected twist." Take cues from Marx's glamorous and modern Parisian-influenced bakery design to add that certain je ne sais quoi to your own space.

|Ornate, decorative moulding is a signature look of classic Parisian apartments and brasseries. Here, Marx opted to take these traditional references and glam them up for visual effect. "Rather than keeping the moulding white, I went with a bold black that really made the trim pop," the designer shares. Using a high gloss finish further distinguishes the accent and unifies the trim around the bakery's menu and recessed shelving units. An easy weekend DIY, add moulding to your walls and paint in a contrast color to add a new layer of interest to your surroundings. EverTrue Interior Chair Rail Moulding, $16, Lowe's|
|"The flooring, which is still one of my favorite parts, turns a traditional marble floor on its head by creating intersecting black and white diagonal stripes," Marx explains. "It's so different and really makes the space sing." Get the look in your home by taking a traditional stripe motif and altering it slightly, so as to still reference tradition, but while personalizing and modernizing the look. |When it came to adding the last layer of glam to the space, Marx knew she wanted something that would make the design extra special. "I started with a simple black and white color palette, and I knew I needed to add a little something to really make the design pop," the designer recounts. "I stumbled across a swatch of rose gold and there it was." Marx incorporated the finish through cabinet hardware, lighting, and simple accessories, but one particular element stands apart. "I'm head over heels in love with the custom rose gold barstools I designed," Marx happily shares. "They are so stunning in person. In the end I think the rose gold added the perfect final touch." We would certainly have to agree. Rose Gold Barstool, Price Upon Request, J.Marx Atelier|
