Inside Geri Hirsch’s Picture-Perfect Dinner Party Under the Stars
Last night in Los Angeles, a crew of beautiful bloggers gathered under the stars for an evening of wining, dining, and all-around merrymaking—and entertaining inspiration was everywhere. Geri Hirsch, co-founder of Leaf.TV and blogger behind Because I’m Addicted, teamed up with personalized wine club Club W to host a wine-tasting dinner party in her backyard, and needless to say, it was totally gorgeous. “It’s all about good food, wine education, and having a really great night.”
With globe lights strung overhead in Hirsch’s lush but tailored backyard, the look was “rustic meets simple and elegant,” she says. “Once we decided on the Sonoma from Archive Rentals, I collaborated with Casa de Perrin and Annie Campbell on the tabletops. We wanted something simple but elevated, allowing for the food and wine to shine, so we kept the dishes basic and focused on the details, like rose gold flatware, individual jadeite salt and pepper cellars, and stunning Czech crystal stemware.”
To add a sensorial layer of interest, the flowers in the fall arrangements were selected based on notes in the wines, which of course were perfectly paired with the menu by consummate hostess Annie Campbell of Après Fête.
Hirsch says her favorite thing about entertaining is “that moment when you're eating and drinking at a beautiful table, laughing and kibitzing with your favorite people with not a care in the world. For me, that's what life is all about,” she says.
When planning your own unforgettable dinner party, Hirsch recommends working backwards. “Think about the things you complain about at parties and try to nip all of those things in the bud. Is it outdoors and will it be 75 or below? Be sure to have heat lamps or blankets on the chairs. Are you planning a long cocktail hour? Then be sure there are noshes to tide people over,” she says. “It's all about making sure there's nothing for people to complain about and a really good flow.”
Attending a dinner party as a guest anytime soon? Hirsch says, “Be on time, Uber if you’re planning on drinking, and if you aren't too shy, break away from your security blanket and sit with someone you don't know that well.”
