3 Sneaky Habits That Age You Faster (and How to Break Them)

While we're all about going through life with the youthful exuberance of yesteryear, the effects of aging become undeniable at a certain point. As anyone who's ever experienced a hangover in their late 20s can attest, your body just doesn't bounce back the way it used to. Rather than speed up this already inevitable aging process and preserve as much of your health and vitality as possible, Prevention suggests avoiding (or at least minimizing) the following everyday lifestyle mistakes: 

Eating junk food: The health risks associated with processed foods are slowly entering mainstream consciousness, along with the realization that a poor diet leads to pre-mature aging. As a general rule of thumb, aim to eat foods that are consumed in the state in which they were harvested, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. 

Not prioritizing sleep: While it's normal to get a bad night's sleep every once in a while, don't let restlessness become the norm. "Skimping on sleep has been shown to increase your risk of weight gain, cancer, and basically any health problem you can possibly imagine," explains Prevention. Instead, make sleep a number-one priority and see a doctor if the problem persists.

Leading an inactive lifestyle: You may not be able to control the inactivity that comes with your nine-to-five, but you can control what you do after-hours. If you're lacking motivation, remember that "sitting deactivates the skeletal muscles in your lower body, ushering in negative metabolic consequences." Make an effort to walk around the office, stand up at your desk, and end your day with a workout.
