Yes, it’s only Monday, and we’re already daydreaming about happy hour. There is just something so satisfying about stopping at your local watering hole and letting a refreshing pint of beer (or, let’s be honest, a crisp chardonnay) quench your thirst after a long day at the office. The clever folks at Thrillist published an article entitled “10 Things You Didn’t Know About Happy Hour,” and we think it’s pretty cool. Here are our top five picks:

1. Happy hour's origins can be traced back to 18th-century Parisian medicine.

2. We can thank the lovely state of Rhode Island for popularizing the term "happy hour" in a 1961 article for the Providence Journal

3.  Ireland, the land of Guinness and countless pubs, enforces a serious ban on “happy hour.” The Irish prohibit a “discounted-drink window.” Our translation—no one should be encouraged to drink more at one time of day over another. 

4. Domestic beer is the happy hour drink of choice for most Americans. We think these glasses make our national favorite look extra-good.

5. A century before we had "happy hour," France had "l'heure verte" (the green hour). Absinthe was the Parisian drink du jour.
