Olivia Palermo's "Instagram Addiction" Shares the Secret to Styling a Dream Room
Few people garner the same kind of sartorial respect as Olivia Palermo. Given her fashion and design pedigree (Palermo's mother is an interior designer), there's no doubt the star's sense of style extends to her home. So when Palermo told Daily Mail her "Instagram addiction" is interior designer Ashley Stark Kenner (@ashleytstark), we took notes. "[She] is a brilliant curator, and she mixes things up, which I love," says Palermo.
Stark, the creative director of her eponymous carpet company, has amassed a serious Instagram following, thanks to her carefully curated feed of enviable interiors. "My décor style is classic with an edge—it has been called 'rebel traditionalist,'" she tells MyDomaine. "I am drawn to clean lines with timeless details. Nothing too modern or too traditional," she says.
While most of the interiors she features exude luxury, she says it's possible to re-create a similar look on any budget. "It can be done easily these days with great resources like West Elm and CB2 and even Target," she says. So we approached her with a challenge. We handpicked four of the most showstopping shots on her feed and asked her to share how to decorate on a budget for the same look. Here's what happened.
What makes it Instagrammable: "The dining room is shot from a low perspective and is graphic and bold, making it a great shot for Instagram," says Stark. The statement chandelier adds a unique silhouette that immediately draws the eye to the ceiling.
How to re-create it: "My top tips are to start with the larger pieces because they are usually the more expensive pieces," she says. For example, spend time (and the majority of your budget) sourcing a quality dining table, and then accessorize it to balance the room.

What makes it Instagrammable: "The yellow pops against the black-and-white floor, creating a chic and timeless look," says Stark.
How to re-create it: Start with a statement color, and decorate the room with it in mind. "I love rooms … that can catch your eye and pull you into the image," admits Stark. These yellow lounges certainly do that.
What makes it Instagrammable: "This bathroom is so luxurious and different [thanks to] the rug and the gold chandelier," says Stark. Unlike most bathrooms, the decorator has introduced accessories you wouldn't typically find in a bathroom like a side table, a rug, and artwork.
How to re-create it: Take risks with unique accessories you can find on a budget. "Remember that the accessories can always be swapped out. Don't be scared to have fun."
What makes it Instagrammable: Apparently, green furniture is trending at the moment on social media, and Stark says this Anthropologie image is the perfect example. The jewel tones offer the perfect contrast against the bright, naturally lit background.
How to re-create it: Play with texture. Search for velvet, curved midcentury-modern furniture in emerald, dusty pink, or off-white to nail this trend.
