10 Cozy Bedrooms That Are the Stylish Sanctuary We All Need Right Now

Jonathan Steinitz

Let’s be real: It’s been a long week. The kind that calls for a much-needed escape from the world, a break from news and emotions and all those politically charged posts in your social media feeds. But even though Instagram, our go-to platform for interior design imagery, might be filled with a different kind of inspiration this week, we’ve done a little extra scrolling for you to help deliver a welcome distraction. After scouring and double-tapping till our thumbs were sore, we found the best new trend to provide a cozy (if temporary) refuge from reality: moody bedrooms.

We love our living spaces to be bright and airy throughout, so a dark, moody bedroom adds a striking element of contrast. Layered with dark paint, modern furniture, metallic décor, and textural fabrics, these bedrooms help us make the daily transition from day to night and back. And in the event that you just can’t even (and we understand if that’s your current state), these cozy rooms can be a comfortable safe haven to give yourself a moment to breathe.

So when the lights go out, we love that a glam, texture-filled moody bedroom sets a sultrier tone that seduces us to go to bed. Motivation to get out of bed the next morning sold separately.

For a moody monochrome moment, look no further than this bold black-and-white bedroom for inspiration. The high contrast between the dark walls and the bright white décor is just the right mixture of heavenly and gothic. Take note of the way the black walls let the subtle feminine details shine, like the brass accents on the corners of the canopy bed or the hot-pink flower peeking out from behind a white marble bedside lamp.

We’re always happy to borrow styling ideas from Scandinavian interiors, particularly when it comes to minimal bedroom designs. We love the contrast created by this moody gray wall color against the whitewashed look of the rest of the home. Dare we say the clouds above the bed are the perfect daydream accessory?

What do you get when you combine dark olive green walls, high-fashion coffee table books, and beautiful fresh flowers? A screenshot-worthy military-floral mix of masculine and feminine moods.

This bedroom’s moody midnight hue has us dreaming of the deep blue sea. The taupe and tan of the bedding and nightstands give the room an inviting warmth, perfect for promoting a restful, cozy sleep.

This bedroom strikes just the right balance between light and dark. From the moody blue-green paint color to the shades of cream and white on the bed to the indigo throw pillow that ties it all together, this space is all kinds of appealing.

The moody, glam vibes in this bedroom are all about the dramatic combination of a brass bed and chandelier popping off jet-black walls, making it the (four-)poster child for the dark side of styling.

Leave it to the Parisians to find the most elegant way to elevate the moody bedroom trend with chic wallpaper. Using a malachite pattern fills the headboard wall with a shapely, swirly feeling in a rich emerald color.

No one styles a messy bed better than the Swedes, so it’s no surprise that we find this disheveled bedding set against a dusty shade of teal downright dreamy. The scattered sheets, throws, and pillows create layers of depth in calm, neutral tones.

This dark-walled bedroom is the definition of texture. From the indigo pattern wallpaper to the nightstand adorned in eclectic shades of blue, this room feels worldly, exotic, and well collected.

This moody bedroom proves that the depth of a space is all in the layering. In this case, the mixture of dusty and saturated hues, of warm tints of rose and cool shades of gray, deep teal, and navy. Sweet dreams are made of this.

Did these dark, dreamy bedrooms set the right mood for you? Sound off in the comments.
