Exclusive: Tour an E! News Producer's Elegant Nursery
With a name like Capri, two powerhouse parents, and a set of sparkling blue eyes, it’s no wonder that her nursery is pure elegance. Baby Capri, the daughter of fashion and lifestyle producer for E! News Kathryn Eisman, and Siimon Reynolds, famed mentor to executives and entrepreneurs, is truly a lucky one-year-old. Custom chinoiserie wallpaper in a sunny yellow hue creates a lively backdrop for a room that Eisman says is “the happiest place to be.”
“I think I was about six months pregnant when I started to get the room together,” says Eisman. Although the couple found out they were having a baby girl, they wanted to keep it a surprise for the rest of the family. “There was also a little part of me that was a little skeptical of the doctors. I kept on going, ‘Are you sure it’s a girl?’ Because you hear all these stories of people painting the room pink and then they have a boy.” The couple decided on a gender-neutral yellow palette for the room.
“I’ve always had a love of traditional chinoiserie hand-painted wallpaper,” says Eisman. “When I was a child I had this beautiful wallpaper in my bedroom with a garden theme and little rabbits. It kind of imprinted on me that enchanted garden feeling.” Eisman set about researching the best paper for creating a similarly magical environment for Capri.
Second to the wallpaper, Eisman’s favorite feature of the room is the large, soft trellis-patterned area rug. “You end up spending a lot of time on the floor,” she says. “I can’t speak highly enough of having a great big area rug, it makes everything better.” Here, baby Capri shows off her crawl in a Doloris Petunia dress.
Eisman customized the wallpaper herself in Photoshop, adding in birdcages, butterflies, and redirecting the flight patterns of birds so they were flying upwards (and not nose-diving). “What’s fun now is when Capri will point out a butterfly or bird in the wallpaper,” says Eisman. “She’s starting to discover parts of the wallpaper she didn’t notice before.”
A Bugaboo stroller is Capri’s preferred ride, and because of its custom pink shade, it looks right at home in the nursery.
Storage is always in high demand in nurseries, so the couple purchased a bookcase from Pottery Barn Kids with a similar trellis design found in the rug. That, along with built-in closets, keeps Capri’s clothing, books, and toys in order. “It would be enough for most adults,” admits Eisman, “and she fills it quite amply!”
Spend an afternoon with baby Capri and you’ll be dumbfounded to recall a happier or calmer baby. It’s undeniable that her environment plays an integral part in her positive mood. “Every night we plug one of our phones into a charger disguised in a stack of books, put on the spa channel, and dim the lights,” says Eisman. “The room looks like you are in a garden and sounds like it too.”
