France's Newest Theme Park Is an Ode to Wine
If wine is truly the nectar of the gods, then a new theme park in France is a temple. La Cité du Vin is a brand-new amusement park devoted entirely to wine. But instead of the usual park staples like roller coasters and merry-go-rounds, this theme park is decidedly more, shall we say, adult.
Situated on the bank of the Garonne River in the heart of Bordeaux wine country, the 10-story amusement park features an impressive 250 seat auditorium where patrons can take expert-led tasting classes or screen films devoted to wine. And, of course, what would an amusement park be without at least one ride. La Cité du Vin—which means “the city of wine,” features a simulated boat ride that re-creates a merchant’s trip across the world.
The theme park’s most attractive feature, other than the promise of day drinking with all your friends, is the building it’s all housed in. The stunning structure was created by architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières, who “designed a space shaped by symbols of identity: gnarled vine stock, wine swirling in a glass… Every detail of the architecture evokes wine’s soul and liquid nature.”
Visit La Cité du Vin in the Bordeaux wine region for just $22, and remember to drink responsibly!
