Tour a Young Family’s Fresh Surf-Town Home

Julia Millay Walsh

When lifestyle and fashion photographer Dewey Nicks and his wife decided to move their family from L.A. north to the Santa Barbara–adjacent surf town of Carpinteria, the idea was to give themselves a temporary break from city life… Six years later, their "vacation home," which was recently featured in C Magazine, remains a permanent one. Designed by architect Barbara Bestor, it is modernist with nods to traditional New England houses. We love its patterned cement floor tiles and exposed wood ceiling beams, but the ocean views aren't bad either. Scroll below for a tour.
