The Top 20 Most Disliked Baby Names in the U.S.
There's something about baby names that seems to pique our interest and spark some intense debates, too. Last year's story on European baby names about to blow up in the U.S. had everybody talking. From the most popular to the most disobedient, our fascination with baby name trends isn't about to slow down anytime soon. Which is why we were intrigued to read Baby Name Wizard's most hated baby names in America list this morning. While site editor Laura Wattenberg admits there is no such thing as the "least popular name," she says "some names just provoke strong reactions, whether retching or swooning."
So how did she come up with the list of the most disliked names? She tracked "baby name negativity" and "feelings" online via U.S. message boards and parenting forums, then tallied the viewpoints to comprise almost 1500 name mentions. While this may seem a little harsh to some, Wattenberg insists her intention is "not to bash anyone's name" but rather to "track and describe the negative sentiment out there." And she says not to stress if one of the names you love is on the list, because many of them "are simply victims of their own success." Scroll down to see which baby names made the cut.
