Remembering an Icon: Oscar de la Renta’s Impact on Design
Domaine’s editor-at-large Estee Stanley reflects on the late designer’s impact on fashion and home design.
Oscar de la Renta was a true style legend who became an authority in the fashion world in his own right, renowned for his aspirational and elegant designs. We may have lost a life, but the inspiration gained from Mr. de la Renta in both fashion and interior design will live on. His impeccable style and classic aesthetic is not only admirable, but timeless. Below we can see the symbiotic relationship between interiors and Mr. de la Renta’s impeccable creations.
Above, the black-and-white gown with a full lace skirt from de la Renta’s S/S 15 collection is reminiscent of this gorgeous entry from British designer Nicky Haslam, who also appreciates the elegance of classic lines paired with dramatic elements—a style we saw in so many of de la Renta’s designs.
Oscar de la Renta loved bold colors, as seen in this coral gown also from S/S 15. In Tory Burch’s Southampton home, Oscar-like saturated colors are coupled with the same clever nuances and understated glamour that de la Renta featured in his designs.
Bold prints were another feature of de la Renta’s work, as seen here in another recent runway creation. This room pays total homage to his vision—fun and unexpected while remaining sophisticated. Never forgotten, always admired. Oscar, we love you.
