Drumroll! Pantone's Color of the Year Is…
The design world is abuzz with talk of Pantone's color of the year for 2016. For the first time in history Pantone selected two colors: Serenity and Rose Quartz. The complementary colors offer balance, calm, and wellness. Together they provide a much-needed antidote to the chaos, violence, and digital frenzy that has come to characterize 2015. Pantone Color Institute said Rose Quartz "is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure," and Serenity, a cool blue, "comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times."
Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said that the color decision was also a nod to gender fluidity. "In many parts of the world," she said, "we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. The more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity."
