Make This: Martha Stewart's Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Sometimes the holidays can be a little intimidating. We all try to be Martha Stewart by having the most festive house on the block, fresh-baked cookies constantly coming out of the oven, and gifts wrapped under the tree even before the first carolers come around. But most of the time this all ends up to be just too difficult. Luckily, Martha has given us the gift of an easy recipe to follow. Making this peppermint hot chocolate is a quick way to treat yourself and your loved ones this season. Thanks, Martha—maybe we can achieve the rest next year.
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 quart milk
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips (3 ounces)
7 peppermint sticks; 3 crushed (1/4 cup), 4 left whole
Pinch of salt
Step 1: Place cocoa in a medium saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk until cocoa has dissolved. Add chocolate chips and crushed peppermint; simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until chocolate and peppermint have melted, 8 to 10 minutes.
Step 2: Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Add salt. Ladle into mugs; serve each with a peppermint stick. (Serves four.)
