Want to Be Successful? Make Sure You Possess This Trait
The so-called secrets to success range from small, humble routines to sweeping shifts in mind-set and ethos. But while we’ve already revealed that how we approach (and rethink) failure is critical for success, there’s another simple trait that’s recently come into focus as a building block for achievement. That trait? Pure confidence, and the humility to remain curious, nimble, and vulnerable to change and evolution.
According to Inc. contributor Nicolas Cole, this personality mind-set is universal in successful, industry-shaping thought leaders, the “people who have redefined industries, those that grab hold of a market and shake it until it sways to the beat of their own drum.”
“Truly ‘successful’ people,” Cole explains, “are those who lack the fear of being wrong, and instead embrace it (because ‘wrong’ to them is part of the learning process). Truly ‘successful’ people want to know everything about their craft and the industry they’re in, and at the same time never want to say the words ‘I know everything.’ That means the discovery process is over—and it is never over.”
The confidence of the most successful people comes from the certainty that whatever the challenge, they’ll be able to figure it out. Embracing a state of not knowing and of vulnerability allows these people to powerfully and dynamically respond to whatever is on the horizon.
