Peter Som's Apartment Is a Lesson in Livable Elegance

Genevieve Fish

Peter Som’s West Village apartment is a wonderful mix of livable minimalism and eclectic sketching space. Som uses a neutral color palette and brilliant pops of color provided by artwork by Mexican artist Jose Dávila and Swedish painter Mia Enell. Everything in the apartment is simple yet interesting, and was chosen by the designer based on one criterion: he loves it. The Saarinen table in the dining room reminds the designer of his childhood. “I grew up in a house full of Bauhaus and midcentury furniture,” Som tells Lonny Magazine. The custom upholstered George Smith sofa in the living room lends a welcoming sense of comfort to Som’s oasis. “At the end of the day, it feels like a home—comfortable and filled with things that I love and have collected over the years.” Scroll through for a tour of Som’s stunningly sophisticated yet approachable home.
