Pinterest is essentially a living mood board for all things aspirational, making it a veritable treasure trove of jaw-dropping travel destinations, swoon-worthy homes, up-and-coming food trends, and much more. With over 75 billion ideas taking root on the site, Pinterest is, in many ways, a barometer for what people are interested in across the world. To capitalize on that intel, Pinterest analyzes all of their data to compile The Pinterest 100, an annual Pinterest board of the emerging trends to try in the New Year. When it comes to travel, they are able to identify brand-new travel trends as well as up-and-coming destinations for the year ahead. Here's where people are booking their flights to in 2017, according to our favorite sharing site:

Chill out in the snow instead of on the beach: Travelers are now trading the beach for the ski slopes, with Pinterest searches for cold-weather destinations up by over 300% heading into 2017. Hit the slopes in Killington, Vermont, Red Mountain Resort in Canada, or Les Carroz, France, come January.

You have to go to Kyoto, Japan: Pinterest searches for the historic city are up 55% heading into the New Year. Known as the "city of ten thousand shrines," the former imperial capital of Japan is another up-and-coming travel destination for 2017.

Green sceneryThe lush greenery that marks countries like Scotland and Iceland seems to be captivating the attention of Pinterest users. With searches up by over 60%, these cold but green destinations are sure to soar into 2017.
