The Most Drop-Dead-Gorgeous Purple Rooms
I am a purple person. I wasn't always. My mother had a purple dining in the home I grew up in. A deep eggplant with a subtle strié effect that was hand-painted by a fine artist. Being surrounded by so much purple made me reject it... but eventually I caved in and became a total convert. Now I sneak home a purple vase here or a candelabra there, every time I visit my mother—don't tell. Purple is hard to get right, though. It can easily look too much like a little girl's room. So when you get it right, it's oh-so right. Here are some of my favorite spaces I've seen, each with their own distinct aesthetic.

The purple herringbone wallpaper by Italian artist Idarica Gazzoni in the home of Los Angeles-based designer Joe Lucas is near perfection. With two tones of dusty purple and an eye-catching graphic print, it's at once rough-hewn and elegant.
People rarely think of purple as a masculine color, but this bedroom designed by French firm D.Mesure certainly proves it can be. It's also surprising how beautiful it looks when paired with blue walls.
A TV room or library is the perfect place to go all-out purple. The neutral base in this space offer balance, while the patterns keep the eye moving.
This purple beach house bedroom is the ultimate princess room! The dusty grass cloth wallpaper is subtle and not to sharp; a purple canopy bed can become dangerously glam, but this one maintains its sophistitcation.
Designed by Kendall Wilkinson, this purple bathroom is feminine glam at its finest. What lady wouldn't want to get dolled up in this space?
