Reese Witherspoon Announces Plans for a Brick-and-Mortar Store
We love just about everything Reese Witherspoon does, from her Academy Award–winning acting performances to her turns as a producer for the box office–topping Wild and Gone Girl. But her latest project, the lifestyle and e-commerce site Draper James, is winning over our hearts with its “unapologetically pretty” and wonderfully put-together Southern charm. Witherspoon shares her motivation behind starting Draper James with Garden and Gun: “I wanted to be a part of telling the story of what it means to be a contemporary Southern woman.”
Following in the likes of other successful e-commerce boutiques like Warby Parker and One Kings Lane, Draper James is going offline and getting its own brick-and-mortar retail experience. The store will be opening on 12th Avenue South in Witherspoon’s native city of Nashville, Tennessee. Of the location, she tells Garden and Gun, “Whenever the plane lands in Nashville, I breathe deeper,” she says. “I can walk around and feel like I belong. I want to bring that sense to more people.”
So how will the brick-and-mortar experience of Draper James differ from its online presence? Witherspoon calls it “a gathering spot where the mom brings kids in, and you drink sweet tea while you browse. That community. The charm of the old Southern department store feeling.” We can’t wait to get a dose of that charm on our next trip to Nashville.
