Home Tour: A New York Stylist's Cool Contemporary Home

Nicole Cohen

Born and raised in New York City, Sara Cooper is a fashion and wardrobe stylist (and a longtime friend of mine). She’s got a fantastic eye—and a résumé to back it up! After graduating from Cornell University with a major in Textile and Apparel Design, she did visuals and styling for trendy New York shop Intermix for five years, before venturing out on her own to become a freelance stylist.

A few months ago, she posted a photo of her dining room on Instagram, and I was so enamored with her tufted banquette that I asked if I could shoot her apartment. “When it’s done,” she promised. Sara is a new mom to baby Axel, and she designed the space from scratch herself. The inspiration for the apartment was a bit of old Hollywood, a dash of Miami art deco, and a touch of pre-war Upper East Side charm. She mixes classic features, like herringbone and moldings, with rock-‘n’-roll elements, like brass, rad art, vintage lighting, and modern classics. I think her place is cool Upper East Side, New York at its finest—a perfect pad for a fashionable young family!
