"Seattle can be hard in the winter, I won't lie. You spend even more time at home, so the use of cozy textiles and rugs helps warm things up," Paquette explains. "You can't fight the grays and blues in nature, you just have to work with them." To create a serene feel, the designer blended textures, materials, and a subtle color palette. "I wanted every piece to sing -- not to just blend in -- everything was chosen with love and I think that comes through," Paquette shares.

"While most people might want large spaces, my clients know what they need and are very much of the 'less is more' school of thought," the designer tell us. "It was important to make sure everything in the home was something they loved instead of just filler for space." Though the cohesive color story helps make the space seem larger, Paquette recommends an unorthodox way to decorate given square-footage limitations. "In terms of small space solutions I say, buy the largest bed, sofa, and dining table/desk you can fit in the space," the designer recommends. "Apartment-sized furniture can lack in comfort due to scale, and I for one would rather have one big sofa to curl up on in lieu of four chairs that you can't relax in."

Built-in storage beneath the stairs enables the couple to store large, bulky items out of sight while shelving in the office area offers a surface for storage baskets to conceal smaller items. Repeated midcentury-inspired lines and a lack of bold patterns help the spaces flow while a wide-open floor plan enables for the couple to host gatherings without worry of overcrowding. A sophisticated small space with a thoughtful design -- dreamy indeed.Photographs: Belathee Photography
