Shiva Rose: Some Enchanted Evening
Actress, mother of two, and founder of eco lifestyle blog The Local Rose, Shiva Rose also happens to be the ultimate California hostess: frequently entertaining out of her lush Pacific Palisades backyard, with fresh veggies sourced directly from her expansive garden. To celebrate these long summer nights, Rose invited over a group of friends including actresses Mia Maestro and Lilakoi Moon (aka Lisa Bonet), models Kirsty Hume and Angela Lindvall, textile designer Rachel Craven, and Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd, for an alfresco feast with a menu co-created with private chef Brooke Larson. "It was a fantasy dinner," says Rose, referencing the miraculous break in the day's June gloominess and the fairytale atmosphere; "It felt very old world, with the trees all around us and an overhead chandelier lighting the way." The guests began with sips including muddled blueberry wheat beer and prosecco spritzers, before enjoying such culinary delights as an oven-roasted wild salmon slathered with pickled beet mustard and herbs. For the rustic banquet's sweet finale? A sophisticated take on the pop tart, whose recipe we've included below.
