Shopping Local Just Got a Whole Lot Prettier
As an architect by trade, Molly McGrath was accustomed to working with many materials: plaster, concrete, wood, and marble. But one thing she rarely touched? Leather. Surprisingly enough, it’s only when her laser cutter, used to make architectural molds for buildings, touched leather that she found her true calling as a jewelry and household goods designer.
Now, Molly M Designs features stunningly crafted leather coasters that are available on West Elm as part of the store's Local Makers initiative. West Elm Local connects communities to their local artisans and allows national recognition for those artisans through the site.
Today, the initiative involves more than 70 stores and over 500 makers, giving artists a space to showcase their craft, and giving people like us the chance to fill our homes with objects that have roots in local communities.
