9 Protein-Rich Foods Nutritionists Say You Should Be Eating

Katie Sweeney

Getting the right amount of protein is crucial to the modern-day diet, but a new review in the journal Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism says it’s not just how much protein you consume that’s important: It’s crucial where you’re getting the protein, too. Each source of protein contains different kinds of amino acids, so it’s essential to eat a wide variety of amino-rich proteins to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need. According to a recent U.S. News piece, “your body can't do much with protein if you're deficient in essential nutrients,” so you have to eat up the right protein (i.e., foods filled with good amino acids). Here are the nine protein-packed foods you should incorporate into your everyday diet.

  1. Eggs
  2. Cottage cheese
  3. Chicken
  4. Whole grains
  5. Fish
  6. Legumes
  7. Greek yogurt
  8. Nuts
  9. Leafy greens
