The One Health Supplement You Should Take in Your 30s

While we've debated the effectiveness of certain vitamins and health supplements, an added boost is sometimes needed as you transition into midlife. As pointed out by PureWow, there are specific over-the-counter supplements women can and should focus on during every stage of their adult life, beginning in their 30s. For those who want to have kids, statistics show that the 30s now signal the beginning of those crucial childbearing years for many women, meaning health supplements can play a crucial role during this time of life.

Specifically, PureWow recommends increasing your intake of folic acid during your 30s if you are trying to start a family. "Folic acid reduces the likelihood of neural-tube defects in fetuses, as well as pre-term and low birthweight babies," explains Livestrong. "All women over 19 should get at least 400 micrograms of folic acid each day; pregnant women need 600 micrograms."

Conversely, supplements like zinc and magnesium can counteract the effect of birth control supplements, as "some forms of prescription contraception can deplete your body of those minerals," writes PureWow. If you're focusing on general health and wellness independent of fertility, Livestrong also recommends vitamin D and calcium to strengthen bone health, in addition to iron to ward off the risk of potential iron deficiency.
