Inside a New York Townhouse With Historic Modern Charm

Julia Millay Walsh

It's been awhile since we've been as completely swept away been a home as we were upon discovering this three-story townhouse in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Selectively gutted and completely transformed by Elizabeth Roberts and Josh Lekwa of Ensemble Architecture, DPC, the family home marries luxurious new details like copper bathroom fixtures, a Lacanche range, and a Carrara marble backsplash with original ones like wood ceiling beams and a brick fireplace.

Transitional elements like dark stained herringbone floors and a farmhouse-style sink help to diffuse the juxtaposition of old and new. Meanwhile, furniture and décor are tasteful with minimal styling—solid colors, textural elements, a touch of antiques, and some midcentury-modern hints. We're in love. Scroll below for a tour.
