The Weekend Routines of 7 Successful Women
Successful women don’t hit the pause button when Friday night rolls around. Rather, they keep being their wonderful selves and schedule activities and “me time” that help boost their productivity and effectiveness for the week ahead. While we’re not advocating for you to schedule every hour of your weekend like you would your Monday through Friday, we do recommend having anchor events such as pampering, friend time, and working out. Scroll through to read about how some of our favorite successful women spend their weekends.
The A-list designer and mom of four loves spending her precious weekend hours with family. Successful women know how important it is to prioritize things that matter—family most of all. Scrolling through Beckham’s Instagram feed, it’s clear that this fashion darling is all about family time. Pictures of her daughter, Harper, at New York Fashion Week and her entire family on weekend getaways to ski cabins or tropical resorts are everywhere.
The always tech-savvy fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff uses the weekend to further update her Instagram account and to brainstorm more ideas to bring her creative genius to social media platforms. By providing her over 600K Instagram followers with a more-than-exclusive insight into her world, curating an epic, interactive feed, and always incorporating reader feedback into her shows and lines, Minkoff teaches us that no weekend should pass without a social media brainstorm session.
Taylor Swift, the founding member of this decade’s most epic #girlsquad, is also the queen of the weekend getaway. Whether she’s in Hawaii with the girls of Haim, driving up Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur with her BFF Karlie Kloss, or frolicking in the snow with boyfriend Calvin Harris, Swift knows the value of a weekend excursion. Make your weekends last longer by planning a trip à la Taylor Swift.
Katherine Power looks forward to her weekend ritual every week. With a mixture of pampering, hanging out with friends, and working out, we would look forward to it too. “Every Saturday, I do Cardio Barre in the [San Fernando] Valley with my childhood friend, and Sunday is my day of rest,” the Clique Media Group CEO tells Into the Gloss. No Saturday is complete without a Tom Ford manicure after Cardio Barre. “I’ve probably done red (Scarlet Chinois) pretty consistently for like the last three years,” Power says.
Michelle Obama has made it her mission to inspire Americans to be healthy, and she certainly leads by example. Those strong, lean arms take hard work and dedication, neither of which gets a break on the weekends. Obama loves hitting the gym for weightlifting, plyometrics, jump rope, and weighted medicine ball exercises. Do like the first lady and get moving on the weekends. Strong arms and a healthy outlook come to those who maintain a routine every day of the week, even if it’s only for a few minutes.
Sheryl Sandberg’s evening routine ends with the Facebook COO turning off her phone so that it doesn’t disturb her REM cycles. On the weekends, Sandberg unplugs on the earlier side in order to spend more time with her family. Do as Sandberg and Arianna Huffington do, and use the weekend as a weekly digital detox, even if it’s just for an hour or two.
Cameron Diaz uses Sunday for meal prep. “In my house, on Sundays, you can usually find me in the kitchen getting my food ready for the week,” Diaz writes in The Body Book. “I tell my friends that I can’t meet for lunch; I tell my nieces and nephews that if they want to hang out, it will have to be at my house. I make sure not to have any meetings or calls scheduled during that time, because that time is SO IMPORTANT for me.” We love how seriously Diaz takes her health routine, and how honest she is about what it takes to be that fit.
