Why This Japanese Fruit Could Be the New Xanax

If you’re looking for add some extra zest to your morning routine, the answer might be citrus. According to a recent study from the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, yuzu, a tart citrus fruit native to East Asia, could have significant mood-boosting properties.

In the study, 20 women spent a mere 10 minutes inhaling yuzu to evaluate the fruit’s calming effects. Turns out inhaling the aromatic oil can lead to a significant decrease in negative emotional stress. In fact, yuzu is considered to effectively alleviate a broad spectrum of negative vibes, from anxiety and depression to confusion and anger.

Deep breathing alone can have many a soothing effect on the body. Next time you need to chill, try a few moments of deep breathing with the fragrant fruit. Time to stop and smell the yuzu.
