Alexander Wang, fashion designer, creative director of Balenciaga and friend and client of interior designer Ryan Korban, has partnered with Italian label Poltrona Frau to design a furniture collection available in February. Having worked closely with Korban on the design of his flagship boutique and his own New York apartment, Wang became interested in furniture and credits iconic designers Karl Springer and Milo Baughman as inspiration for the three piece collection. Featuring sleek lines and luxurious materials, the collaboration features a shearling beanbag chair set on a nine-sided brass base, a leather version of the same chair, and a coordinating bar cabinet swathed in shagreen.
“For me, design always has to stem from a place of integrity—and a genuine interest in something that I would want for myself or would be excited by,” Wang told The Wall Street Journal. “But at the same time, I like to reappropriate things so there’s a sense of irony. How do we take it from what we know to something that feels more extreme—very extreme, sometimes?” With prices for the pieces starting at $8,800 (for the leather beanbag chair) we'd say this qualifies as luxury of the very extreme variety.
