Angelina Jolie never fails to inspire intrigue—the Oscar-winning actress, humanitarian, and mother of six has captivated audiences and admirers for decades. But as far as her skin goes, Jolie admits that it's not a one-woman job; she's been seeing dermatologist Rhonda Rand since she was just 11 years old. "It's who my mother brought me to when I was little with my first scar," she recently told InStyle. "To have somebody who is very encouraging of being as natural as possible has really helped me, I think."
Refinery29 recently caught up with Rand, who, with Jolie's blessing, revealed the ins and outs of the actress's skincare routine for the first time. Simply put, Jolie has been taking good care of her skin since she was very young, wears minimal makeup, never skimps on her skincare routine, always wears sunscreen, and doesn't go crazy with treatments.
"When [Jolie] knew she was going to have an acting career, she wanted to take care of her skin in the most sensible way," Rand told the publication. "She's lucky she has her mom's beautiful, olive skin. She's always been such a natural beauty, so she didn’t ever have to do much. It was really just sunscreen, proper cleansing with a mild, gentle cleanser, antioxidants, sometimes glycolic [acids], and natural products. Some alpha-hydroxy [acids] are good too, and they're very natural."
The actress also goes without makeup as much as possible and makes sure that her makeup artist is selective about what she puts on her skin, including sunscreen. "She's olive skinned like her mom, but it’s not like she lets herself get dark," adds Rand. "She's been so good about using sunscreen from such an early age to protect her skin. She's also good about wearing hats, which is so important… It's the sun protection that's going to stop you from aging more than anything."
Jolie favors Rand's own Dermbasics RR Perfection Cream, which is a chemical-free antioxidant SPF 50+ sunscreen, especially when traveling. Additionally, Rand's Dermbasics Glycolic Acid Pads 20% always has a place in Jolie's suitcase. "They remove the stratum corneum, increase collagen and elastin, keep pores clean and appearing small, and even out discoloration," adds Rand.
