Angelina Jolie never fails to inspire intrigue—the Oscar-winning actress, humanitarian, and mother of six has captivated audiences and admirers for decades. But as far as Jolie's skincare routine goes, she admits that it's not a one-woman job; she's been visiting Beverly Hills-based dermatologist Rhonda Rand since she was just 11 years old. "It's who my mother brought me to when I was little with my first scar," she reveals to InStyle. "To have somebody who is very encouraging of being as natural as possible has really helped me, I think."
Refinery29 caught up with Rand, who, with Jolie's blessing, revealed the ins and outs of the actress's skincare regimen.
Angelina Jolie's Skincare Routine
Simply put, Jolie has been taking good care of her skin since she was very young. She also wears minimal makeup, never skips her routine, always wears sunscreen, and doesn't go crazy with treatments. "She doesn't have any kind of a plastic look because [she] doesn’t do anything drastic," Rand pointed out. "She doesn’t need it."
"When [Jolie] knew she was going to have an acting career, she wanted to take care of her skin in the most sensible way," Rand told the publication. "She's always been such a natural beauty, so she didn’t ever have to do much. It was really just sunscreen, proper cleansing with a mild, gentle cleanser, antioxidants, sometimes glycolic [acids], and natural products. Some alpha hydroxy [acids] are good too, and they're very natural."
The actress is also good at removing makeup, makes an effort to go without makeup as much as possible, and makes sure her makeup artist is selective about what she puts onto her skin, including sunscreen.
"She's olive-skinned like her mom, but it’s not like she lets herself get dark," Rand said. "She's been so good about using sunscreen from such an early age to protect her skin. She's also good about wearing hats, which is so important. She hydrates a lot and does a lot of good moisturizing, but again, it’s the sun protection that’s going to stop you from aging more than anything."
Jolie Swears By These Skincare Products
Jolie's choice of products is fairly simple. She favors Rand's own Dermbasics RR Perfection Cream, a chemical-free antioxidant-rich SPF 50+ sunscreen, especially when traveling. Rand's Dermbasics Glycolic Acid Pads 20% always have a place in Jolie's suitcase. "They remove the stratum corneum, increase collagen and elastin, keep pores clean and appearing small, and even out discoloration," Rand said.
