She often plays the girl you love to hate, but it's clear that actress Anna Camp's dramatic, diva-like onscreen persona is far from reality. The Pitch Perfect and now Good Girls Revolt star revealed her true colors when talking to MyDomaine about the career advice that's led to her success. "It's tough to be an actress in Hollywood with all of the rejection and competition, but maintaining perspective and never taking yourself too seriously can help keep your head held high during trying times," she says. "When success happens to knock on your door, it's great to remain humble and go with the flow, because life is too short to let your ego get the best of you." And just like that, we realized there's a side to Camp we've never seen.
To get to know the real woman behind the Barden Bella façade, we asked Camp to take us on a theoretical tour of her home. On a walk through her living room (which she sage smudges to remove negative energy) to the kitchen (where she whips up bread pudding), her answers give us a glimpse at what she's like when the cameras are switched off. Forget what you know about Anna Camp—this is what the actress is like when she's home alone.
The first thing I do when I get home is… "Take off my shoes and go to the kitchen to look for a snack!"
If I could live anywhere, it would be… "California, for now. Maybe one day Mexico."
The first thing you I when you wake up is… "Stretch and put on a fuzzy pink robe and make coffee and drink water!"
I feel the most at home in… "Bed relaxing with my dog Rocky."
The secret behavior I do when no one is watching is… "Fluff pillows and light sage. I'm always walking around my house with sage moving the energy around and spreading good vibes! It really seems to help with positive flow."
The most treasured item I own is… "My engagement ring and my collection of dresses."
The morning routine I swear by is… "Washing my face with Kate Somerville Daily Detox cleanser and using my Clarisonic every night! Applying rose oil and Kate Somerville eye cream."
The best meal I ever had was… "At Mama's Fish in Maui on the ocean and Diner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's so hard to answer cause there are so many!"
The recipes I know by heart are… "Bread pudding! Krispy Kreme doughnuts, challah bread, cream, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and Hershey bar dark chocolate broken up into pieces. Bake it for 20 minutes then pour Godiva liquor over it and add vanilla ice cream! Yum."
The one ingredient I put in everything is… "Cinnamon—on cereal, in coffee, I love it!"
My favorite dinner party conversation starter is… "This awesome marquis moon light mounted on the wall. Everyone always wants to know where I got it! I actually got it from Blake Lively's website Preserve before it ended."
You're totally in your domain when… "Cleaning my house while blasting music and drinking wine. Literally, I can have a blast cleaning my entire house listening to Katy Perry or Lady Gaga while drinking wine! I love straightening up and putting things in their place. I'm a little OCD!"
Your guiltiest pleasure is… "Watching reality television like dance moms and Real Housewives on my TV."
The one thing that makes you instantly cry is… "When my husband gets me flowers and a sweet card."
The one thing that always makes you laugh is… "When my dog gives me kisses lets me rub his belly."
The one thing you need to be successful is… "Dedication and a dream."
I'm most passionate about… "Challenges, people, and career opportunities that push me to think outside the box and help me to grow into a better person."
I owe my own success to… "My positive attitude, talent, passion, dedication, and sense of humor. It's tough to be an actress in Hollywood with all of the rejection and competition, but maintaining perspective and never taking yourself too seriously can help keep your head held high during trying times. When success happens to knock on your door, it's great to remain humble and go with the flow, because life is too short to let your ego get the best of you."
